I wanted to take a picture of a zombie hand emerging from sweets and I managed to do that. To achieve this I had to stick skittles on a piece of cardboard and cut a hole where a hand to go through. The zombie hand is an actual hand but painted to make it look like a zombie.
Eventually I settled on this picture:
This wasn't the angle I was originally going to have but it showed the zombie hand coming out of the sweets which is ultimately what I wanted. I was going to use another picture showing the entire hand and it was going to look more like a hand in a landscape of sweets, but photoshop is not my strong point and after trying to edit the picture I realised it wasn't going to look professional so I settled on a high angled picture.
I recoloured the picture as I thought the original one didn't look too colourful, and I didn't like the lighting. This is now my final picture:
When getting feedback on this picture I think some people thought it was too colourful and slightly unrealistic, and I can understand that. The hand and the sweets don't have the contrast I'd quite like it to have, I wanted it to be the complete opposite because sweets are nice and are seen as being child like and a dead zombie hand is horrible, and I wanted to put these things together because it's an odd mix. But I think in my final picture it doesn't look "horrible" and the hand and the sweets are too similar looking for my liking.
Another piece of feedback I've received is that my final photos should've been more different from each other, and that I should've experimented with more camera angles. It was never my intention to have more than one final photo but I knew that if I did I would want it to be different colours of the same photo but I think I should've had more different photos as it could've helped me get my idea across more clearly, but I still like all the different coloured photos and think they look very artistic, which was what I was going for.
However I still really like the colour of this photo, especially the colour of the sweets and how bright they look. I always knew I wanted to have sweets in my picture so I'm glad I've achieved that. I was always set on having a photo that had good content and I wasn't too bothered about the actual style of the photo, but now I've taken the photo I think I should've thought more about the colouring, lighting and angle to make the photo the best it could be.
Comparing myself to the professional photographer Stephanie Salo, a photographer who specialises in photographing food, I'd say our styles are very different. While her photos are very soft, with light colours and natural lighting, my photos were very sharp as the lighting and the colour of the sweets were very dark. Her photos only show food in them but my photos obviously showed a zombie hand, and only showing food in photos makes them seem appealing but my photo wasn't suppose to make the sweets look appetising.
Overall I think my idea was good because even though I didn't intend it to have meaning it does and I still think it's a really cool idea. But if I'd thought more about what I wanted the photo to look like it could've been even better and if I had to do this again that is what I would do.
